Rosental C. Alves is the founder and director of the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas at the University of Texas at Austin. He chairs the board of the Maria Moors Cabot Awards and serves on the board of the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists. He holds the Knight Chair in Journalism and the Unesco Chair in Communication.
